CFIT (CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN TRANSITION) CLASSES
Formally Known As:
PARENT EDUCATION CLASSES
This message concerns the Court ordered CFIT class that the parties in
a divorce action must attend.
Children and Families in Transition Seminar
WHEN: 2nd AND 4th Wednesday of each month starting at 5:30
3rd Friday of each month (NOT the last Friday of each month!)
from 12:00 pm (Noon) to 1:30 pm
WHERE: 270 S. Tejon, Room W113 (Jury Assembly Room)
WHY: This is required for all divorcing parents and allocation of parental responsibility cases, (in El Paso and Teller Counties), of children under 18 years of age, within 45 days of filing and before final orders can be set.
WHAT: You will watch two videos, one about the effects of divorce on children,
The other about legal terms and the legalities of the divorce process.
There will be an attorney and a mental health professional there,
Volunteering their time, to answer your questions.
IMPORTANT:
You do not need a reservation, but please come early! You will NOT be admitted if you are more than 10 minutes late. You must sign in with either your case number or the other parent’s name, in order to receive credit. If you and the other parent attend together, you must sign in individually. If only one of you signs in, only one of you will receive credit for the class. If you are from El Paso or Teller Counties and have filed your divorce in the 4th Judicial District, there is not an additional fee for the class. However, if you are from a different district, there is a $25 fee per person, which must be paid at the time of the class.
Children are not allowed in the class under any circumstances. The items discussed are not appropriate for them to hear. If you bring your children, you will be dismissed and asked to return without your children at a different time. We do not admit infants, because they can become disruptive to the class. You may arrange for child care in advance through Court Care, which is a free child care service for court approved activities at 442-1972.
Note: The seminar is always open to the public. You are welcome to attend for any reason or if you would like to view the videos. Please don’t sign in. Simply explain to the facilitator that you are only there to observe. Thank you.
