LEGAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR JURY SERVICE:

You must be 18 years of age or older.
You must live in the county or municipality that summoned you.
You must be a United States citizen.
You must read, speak, and understand English.
You must not have served on a jury for five or more days in the past twelve months.
You must not be solely responsible for the daily care of a permanently disabled person.
You must not have a physical or mental disability that would prevent your ability to serve as a juror.

POSTPONEMENTS
By state law, each juror is allowed one postponement per jury summons. If you have work conflicts, doctor's appointments, school conflicts, etc., we will grant you a postponement to another day. We allow you to pick the day that you do your juror service. You can pick any day, a Monday through a Thursday, at least 5 weeks after your current summons date. You may call us with the day that you wish to postpone to, fill our the electronic form, or you may e-mail us.

NO LONGER A RESIDENT
If you are no longer a resident of El Paso county, you are not eligible for jury service in our county. Please fill out the juror question naire with the address where you have moved to, or are currently living, and send it to us. You may also fill out the electronic form or e-mail that address to us.

MEDICAL PROBLEMS
If you have medical problems that would preclude you serving as a juror, and are under the age of 72, we will need a doctors note or letter stating you are not eligible to serve as a juror. There is no age limit in the state of Colorado for jury service. If you are over the age of 72; and have a physical or mental problem that would hinder your service as a juror, fill out the juror questionnaire and write "physically unable to serve" on it. Please send all correspondence to the return address on the summons.

STAY-AT-HOME-PARENTS
There are no automatic exemptions from jury service in the state of Colorado. We will reimburse you for your childcare up to $50 per day, for the first three days of service. We als o reimburse for mileage. If you are having problems finding daycare for your child, we do have a licensed daycare a couple blocks from the courthouse that will take drop-in's. We have worked out a voucher system with that daycare for your convenience. If you have any questions about reimbursement or the drop-in daycare, please e-mail us or call us.

NOT A UNITED STATES CITIZEN
If you are not a United States citizen, we need your Green Card or Visa number. You may write either of those numbers on your juror questionnaire, or you can fill out the electronic form, or e-mail them to us.

COLLEGE STUDENTS
College students are not exempt from jury service. As long as you are living in El Paso county while attending college, you are still eligible. We can postpone you to another day that fits best with your schedule. We can also provide you with a "Juror Service Certificate" to take to your professors to prove you attended jury duty. You cannot be punished in any way for attending jury duty. If you are living in another county or state while attending college, you can be excused. You will need to fill out the juror questionnaire with the address where you are living at and send it back to us.
